The fallen leaves are cornflakes
That fill the lawn’s wide dish,
And night and moon, the wind’s a spoon
That stirs them with a swish.
The sky’s a silver sifter
A-sifting white and slow,
That gently shakes
On crisp brown flakes
The sugar known as snow.
Kaye Starbird (1916-1993)
Love the corn flakes and white sugar!
I love this poem too!
Recalls to me the last line of the last poem written by Archibald Lampman. ‘Silence, frost and beauty everywhere’.
What a lovely poem. Thanks for sharing. I still have my copy of The Hermit Crab on my bulletin board that you had given me. 🙂
